Mittelman Furniture Company was founded in 1956 by Israel and Sara Mittelman. They began by building upholstered furniture in their basement. As they mastered their craft, the business became a strong competitor with over a dozen other furniture manufacturers in the Kansas City area. In 1976, Phil Koffman, the Mittelman's son-in-law, joined the company and soon after began distributing other furniture products in addition to manufacturing their own upholstery. Today, Mittelman Furniture has become one of the largest wholesale distributors and direct importers of fine home furnishings in the Midwest. Mittelman Furniture's family tradition is being carried on with the help of third generation son-in-law, David Kuluva. David has been helping run the company since 1996 after marrying Phil and Marie's daughter, Kerry. Celebrating 50 years in business, Mittelman Furniture now operates out of a 130,000 square foot building in Kansas City, Kansas, located at 501 Funston Road in the Fairfax district. The building features a 30,000 square foot showroom displaying the full line of in-stock furniture, as well as a special order Design Center. The showroom is open to any of Mittelman Furniture's registered customers, and to guests of registered customers.
